It's hard to forgive a man who was so obsessed with petty, vindictive politics that after the 1976 Tangshan earthquake killed hundreds of thousands of Chinese, he presided over a campaign against his rival Deng Xiaoping that demanded that rescuers halt their work to "denounce Deng on the ruins." Your analysis of the economic reform being introduced in China under Deng Xiaoping was excellent. It would have been even more interesting had you mentioned that the concept of making all land common property and paying rent to the state for its use under a "contract system," with surplus production going to the free market, is a direct application of the theory published by the American writer Henry George in Progress and Poverty, in 1879.
