Minority governments are attempting to rule in Britain, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. There were no effective governments at all last week in Italy and Belgium. In France, isolated and ailing President Georges Pompidou did little to restore confidence in his ability to govern by a largely cosmetic Cabinet reshuffling. In Bonn, Chancellor Willy Brandt, increasingly distant and indecisive, has seen his party's popularity plummet to its lowest level since 1957. In Britain, Prime Minister Harold Wilson has scraped into office with an avowed distaste for his country's membership in the European Economic Community...

...year ago the enlargement of the European Community from six to nine members, with the entry of the United Kingdom, Denmark and Ireland, was celebrated in Britain with a month-long "fanfare" of concerts, galas and enthusiastic speeches dedicated to the dream of a united Europe. Today that fanfare has become a cacophony of disenchantment. The bigger Community has emerged as nothing more than a bigger bureaucracy. ...However, the bulk of available evidence says this is not the case. The recent Presidential Commission's Report on Pornography concluded that exposure to pornography probably had little or no adverse affects on individuals (some have refused to accept these findings). But more convincing is the fact that in Denmark, where all censorship has been abolished, a remarkable and extensive drop in sexual crimes has been reported. If anything, it would seem therefore that the best way to protect the general public would be to allow outlets for sexual energy, rather than to suppress them...
