...further easy identification, Presley's car sports a yacht-style rear-seat lounge, portholes, gold lame drapes, gold curtains, gold mouton carpeting, gold-plated telephone and 24-carat hubcaps and tail pipes. The hubcaps on Ursula Andress' BMW, on the other hand, sport medallions that depict Ursula emerging from a swimming pool...
...presidential assassination sends a shock wave of horror across a nation. Contemporary artists and writers called upon to depict or describe it all too often resort to maudlin bathos or tight-lipped understatement. Years may pass before it can be viewed with anything like objectivity-and then the initial, highly emotional reaction may fascinate the historian as much as the event. Its extraordinary impact derived from the fact that the artist, Elias Friedensohn...
...whose 24 in.-by-20 in. abstract won first prize last week at the Royal Society of Arts in the nonobjective category of a competition sponsored by the popular Sunday newspaper The People. But for the folk-art fancier, there is still plenty of honey in the old hives: genuine antique beehive paintings now bring up to $1,600 apiece. And at least one enterprising Slovenian, Vid Sedej, 28, is doing a brisk business selling his contemporary versions...
Belgium's Paul Van Hoeydonck, 41, is another artist who finds "Cape Kennedy the most romantic place on earth." His subject, too, is space. To depict it, he has abandoned pure painting in favor of white-on-white bas-reliefs made of discarded department-store mannequins, pingpong balls, electronic gadgets and gizmos. He paints them all pure white, he explains, "because white symbolizes infinity and mystery...
