Theodore Roosevelt, though paternally of Dutch descent, was Celtic on his mother's side of the house (Bulloch), and F.D.R. was descended from the Clan Livingstone of Argyllshire. Be careful, too, in classifying Senator Edmund Muskie as Polish; several thousand Celts settled his country many centuries ago! John D. Rockefeller is Celtic through the Davison branch. True, Bundy, Diller, Coffin, are Wasps, but not McCloy and Wallace...

...protect black voters. A majority of the delegates voted instead for the proposal embodied in the awkward acronym NIBMAR (No Independence Before Majority African Rule). Home Secretary James Callaghan angered nonwhite Commonwealth members by refusing to guarantee a welcome for any and all British passport holders of Asian descent. His refusal was particularly galling to East African nations, which have renewed a harsh campaign against thousands of Asian merchants in their midst. Since the majority hold British rather than local passports, black leaders in East Africa adamantly insist that the British should accept them. Britain has reacted against immigration...

...Henry's Candy screenplay (an unpleasant topic to discuss, I assure you), it is astoundingly unfunny, unoriginal and tasteless. Dr. Krankeit (Jewish and author of the prize-winning Masturbation Now in the book) becomes a quack surgeon of Italian descent in the movie. The marvelous, obscene Aunt Livia character is transformed into a grotesque nymphomaniac, about as funny as a scrawl on a public bathroom wall. Candy herself becomes an aimless slut--hardly what the original work intended...

...high as 17 m.p.h. and diving at a rate of 450 ft. per min., an object that could have been "several meters" in length traced a clear pattern on the sonar screen. Two other large bodies, moving more slowly, were also detected. "The high rate of ascent and descent," Tucker says, "makes it seem very unlikely that they are fish...
