Bargain hunters headed for Bangkok's cheap-clothing markets and custom tailors can now add designer maternity wear to their shopping lists. The city's one-year-old Amayi boutique has become a magnet for mums-to-be, thanks to the fashion sense of founder Nida White. Disappointed with the clothing choices she faced during her pregnancy, the onetime political-science student decided to establish her own clothing line, trading on a combination of trendy design and the kind of luxe fabrics not usually associated with maternity garments (goodbye spandex!). "Everybody wants to look good all the time," says White...

If this isn't sensory stimulation enough, floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the Hong Kong island skyline and Victoria Harbour-a body of water that has partially inspired the interior design. And in the same spirit these places make no pretense to timelessness, a tempting fantasy when we think about nature but a hopeless ambition in landscape design, which is always a product of its time. So the Weiss/Manfredi design for the Seattle park, with its pulsing tectonics and dynamic lines, is clearly a product of late 20th--early 21st century thinking, the era of Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind and their thunderbolt architecture...

...Schwartz said that “the design school is a difficult place for woman designers to succeed.” Getting things done requires “force,” but “it’s damn unladylike to have an opinion to have an ego, it’s antithetical to get things done,” she said. “I’m a bit of a dancing bear...
