These are not sloppy pictures off the sketch pad--the artists obviously agonized over every little detail. Some of the details are so sharp and refined, it would be absolutely impossible to do the same with a paintbrush, as in Burial of a Satyr, by Claude Gillot. Gillot was an etcher with an extremely precise hand, and every line in this satyr funeral has something to say. This is not the only example of lots of patience and a very sharp pencil. In 1993 Ruff allegedly paid Jack Palladino, a San Francisco private detective, more than $150,000 out of Teamsters funds for unspecified services. A House subcommittee that had tried to investigate the payment was stymied by legal objections from Ruff and Carey. There have been allegations that the money was for work Palladino did for Clinton in his 1992 campaign to keep stories of sexual misconduct from becoming public, or that...

The website, which last Friday announced that Bradley, as expected, was exploring a run for the 2000 Democratic nomination, buried a telling detail about the Democratic race. Near the top of a long list of Bradley backers and supporters was LOUIS B. SUSMAN, a Chicago investment banker, former fund raiser for TED KENNEDY and a longtime backer and moneyman for Gephardt. Aides to the Missouri Congressman were surprised to see Susman's name...
