Cast with Australian players, the level of acting falls below the high standard generally set in English pictures, yet the slight amateurism does not detract greatly from the overall effect of the picture. Chips Rafferty as the tall, gaunt trail boss, can both act and ride, giving an excellent picture of a single-minded bush rider. "The Overlanders" admirably combines simple historical fact with a feasible amount of action to become one of the few examples of a vivid and unprocessed documentary film.
