Working at the U.S. Army's laboratory at Fort Detrick, Md., researchers came up with the shellfish toxin. After receiving the toxin orally or by pinprick, a victim first feels a tingling sensation in the fingers and lips, then dies within ten seconds of painless paralysis. Indeed, according to Colby, U-2 Pilot Francis Gary Powers carried the toxin-contained in the grooves of a tiny drill bit that was concealed in a silver dollar -when he was shot down over Russia in 1960, but chose...

Researchers took contaminated butter clams and distilled the poison from them through a costly process. According to sources close to Church's panel, the CIA used saxitoxin in suicide pills for its own agents (U2 Pilot Francis Gary Powers had one, but chose to pass it up) and had it on hand to eliminate troublesome guard dogs when breaking into embassies...

Psychosis Delusions. Olson was taken to New York by two men, Army Colonel Vincent Ruwet, a colleague at Fort Detrick, and a man named Robert Lashbrook, who the Olson family later said they believed was a CIA agent. A psychiatric examination of Olson was conducted by Dr. Harold Abramson, now 75, who had done pioneering work on LSD. Abramson found that Olson was suffering from "severe psychosis and delusions," and recommended that he enter a sanitarium...
