John C. Reilly has covered a lot of film territory over the past 20 years. He made us laugh as a diehard NASCAR-driver in “Talladega Nights” and made us cry as a sensitive cop in “Magnolia.” But in his new film, Jake Kasdan’s “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” he wants to make us sing. In “Walk Hard,” Reilly shows off his musical talents for the first time since 2002?...

Living across from each other freshman year, the two of us quickly found that we agree on virtually nothing. One was the editor of The Harvard Salient, a conservative publication, the other a diehard Democrat with a taste for burgers, country music, and baseball. While we certainly do not agree on who the next president of the United States should be, we do agree that Roy T. Willey IV ’09 and Nicholas B. ...Just another typical installment of Midnight Madness, the festival's nightly showcase for pictures with an outrageous agenda and a racing pulse. There are films, and then there are movies; the Madness audience knows the difference and celebrates it. But they're not slumming. "They're diehard festival goers," says Colin Geddes, the section's programmer. "They've been to three or four films that day and this is their last stop. They know they're going to see a film that will thrill them. But they understand world cinema. After nearly every film the director does...

...Lots of the computer generated effects appear inexcusably fake. Sandman looks completely false and though Venom can be terrifying, he sometimes falls flat—instead of striking dread into our hearts, you kind of smile at his goofiness. There will also, no doubt, be dissent in the details. Diehard fans will feel bittersweet toward the film; the sequence of events is vastly different that that of the comics. For example, Gwen Stacy was Parker’s first true love, killed at the hand of the original Green Goblin. There are also some atrocious one liners...
