L.B.J. was convinced that Bobby Kennedy had bugged him all during the time that he was Vice President. He frequently called the CIA "Murder Incorporated" because he believed that the CIA had gone ahead and killed South Vietnam's President Ngo Dinh Diem against Kennedy's wishes. He had a further notion that the CIA was somehow linked with the Mafia...
...committee, which supervises all House employees and controls various personal comforts of House members, to expand his influence and further his ample ambition. He has arbitrarily fired various workers, terrorizing elevator operators, barbers and restaurant employees. In scrapping to retain his post, Hays promised to raise the per diem expense allowances for traveling Congressmen from $35 to $45. He has also used his chairmanship of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which dispenses campaign funds, to reward friends and browbeat enemies. ...could think of good reasons for murder, good reasons for killing Diem, good reasons for killing Trujullo, good reasons for bombing. Lansdale is despised by members of the Dai Viet, Thieu's party. The Vietnamese press reports that last month he sounded out religious leaders and supporters...
Although Buddhist immolations in 1963 roused American opinion against Ngo Dinh Diem and in 1966 forced Thieu to promise elections, until recently the Buddhists had limited their anti-Thieu protests to pathetic little marches in downtown Saigon, in which they were outnumbered 10 to 1 by police. They have now formed an organization called the Forces for National Reconciliation. The Buddhists carefully refrained from labeling the "force" a political party in order to avoid legal harassment, but they clearly intend to exert renewed political influence. Says Senator Vu Van Mau, leader of a Buddhist group in the Thieu-dominated Senate...
