Tropical dry forests differ from rain forests in that their precipitation is seasonal. During the rainy period, the landscape is verdant, but during the five to six months of the year that are rainless (early December to mid-May in Costa Rica), many trees lose their leaves. Influenced by scholarly skepticism about Mark's priority, Mann decided to examine particularly the ways in which the three Gospels differ about the order of events in Jesus' life. Where such differences exist, Mann shows, Mark rarely departs significantly from Matthew or Luke.
