Across the Board on Tomorrow Morning exhibits by far the best acting of the evening. In the difficult part of a philosophical waiter who steps out of character to acts as commentator, Arthur Lewis gives a polished and confident performance. He is not at all stricken with the curse of uncertainty common in many amateur actors. Martin Mintz, who portrays a cab driver, shows a similar surety, and also posses a seemingly instinctive sense of comedy and timing. A a somewhat irrational restaurant customer, Peter Hugen is less effective because he is not quite in control of either his voice...

...contemporary works on the program provided an interesting contrast. Three movements of a Mass for Three Men's Voices by Leo Preger, receiving their first performance anywhere, showed that Preger's style is stark, powerful, and extremely difficult. The Harvard Glee Club's performance was excellent, bringing out the drama of the music without sacrificing good tone in the process. The Smith chorus gave an equally fine performance of Richard Winslow's Huswifery. This piece was more singable and less dissonant than the Preger, but was still a forceful work, with a wonderful melismatic climax on the words "Thee Glorify...

Granted, the pupils in the New York metropolitan schools are "apparently" difficult, and the educators are "apparently" failing to meet their goals, other cities and other communities are meeting their problems and coming up with solutions and New York City does the same. The younger generation always seems to be worse than the last. I suggest that Miss Dunn should become more acquainted with other schools, other pupils, and become a bit more experienced in teaching before she condemns ... If all young teachers "give up" after four years, who is to supply the answer...
