Conservative banking houses like Morgan Stanley & Co. (divorced underwriting half of J. P. Morgan & Co.) and Kuhn, Loeb & Co. have held themselves coolly aloof from competition for security issues. Their position is that terms reached in direct negotiations with a single underwriter, thoroughly familiar with the financing company, are more likely to be best for borrower and investor than those that come out of a fierce competition among a group of bidding underwriters. Later the Workshop became a laboratory for all of Columbia's crack directors. Reis, now a writer-director for Paramount in Hollywood, will direct three of the plays in the Festival; Robson, one. Most famed of the Workshop's plays. Archibald MacLeish's The Fall of the City, goes on the air September 28. Other good bets: an adaptation of Stephen Vincent Benét's John Brown's Body...
