...Princeton, N. J., Albert Einstein, a group of promising Ph.D.s. This month Dr. Flexner saw his Institute (now richer by $3,000,000) move into its own building, Fuld Hall, on Princeton's outskirts. This week, 72 and ailing, Dr. Flexner retired as the Institute's director. To succeed him, the trustees elected Dr. Frank Aydelotte, 59, president of Swarthmore College and U. S. audiences, smiling in anticipation, trooped into movie houses to see smart Director Frank Capra repeat his Mr. Deeds Goes to Town in a Boy Scout uniform and a Senator's ten-gallon hat. What they saw was just as funny as Mr. Deeds, but it did not leave them smiling...

Aside from these two scenes and some very interesting shots of pre-sound direction, the rest of the picture is taken up with a verbose plot about a director and his star. Alice Faye and Don Ameche do the best they can, but "Hollywood Cavalcade" is primarily a historical document, and, as such, is a fine show...
