Russian funny man and ultranationalist parliamentarian VLADIMIR ZHIRINOVSKY took time out of his legislative duties last week to celebrate the release of his first compact disc, a collection of pop tunes titled The Real Colonel. Zhirinovsky, once considered a leading contender for the presidency, held the celebration at Dolls, one of Moscow's more distinguished strip clubs. The head of the Liberal Democratic Party thrilled the audience when he took the stage and, surrounded by dancers, alternately recited song lyrics and denounced NATO. But the Russian citizenry is never far from his mind. "[Zhirinovsky] is above all a politician," said...
...175G meets worldwide standards for ultimate play. Which was what the CompUSA support guy taught me how to do, showing me an easy way to make a Win98 boot disc. Ten minutes and $25 later, I was well on my way to fixing my machine. Someone still needs to fix Micron's software support, though...
...Lenz ist da (named for one of its hits), has run in Berlin for more than a year. Barry Manilow is fine-tuning his own musical, Harmony, with an eye to a Broadway opening next year. Harmonist acolytes have paid the group tribute in concert and on compact disc in Germany, Britain and the U.S., where CDs of the original recordings are selling briskly. The Comedian Harmonists can't go on a reunion tour like the Drifters--the last surviving member died last year at 97--but it is suddenly the world's hottest oldies...
