...black-and-white documentary, which eschews traditional storytelling techniques such as narration and interviews, would be hailed as the greatest rock documentary of all time. Forty years after its debut, Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back has been lovingly remastered and will be released this week as a two-disc set (with plenty of worthwhile extras) by Docurama. Pennebaker, who has also filmed dozens of other well-known documentaries, including Monterey Pop and the Oscar-nominated The War Room, chatted with TIME's Carolina A. Miranda about the Dylan conversation he wished he could have filmed and how the movie...
...harm / There’s no harm / There’s no harm done”) but the circles shift sufficiently to make the songs interesting. Slow harmonic builds like the one at the end of “Sleep in Splendor” are what redeem this disc from the oblivion of sonorous boredom. And thank goodness that almost midway through the disc, the rolling guitar of “Rise” hits. The song, which boasts a loosely trotting chorus that hints at Spanish guitar and dusty Western dreams, exemplifies Calla’s strengths. The layered...

Guitarists Ryan Ross and Chad Gilbert still treat the palm mute like a magic trick, and vocalists Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz wield the same saccharine croon. Granted, the disc is stuffed with studio effects; I’d be shocked to learn that the drummer can keep time without a click track or that the vocalists can keep pitch without three producers and Auto-Tune. Yet this is the band’s formula, and they follow it well...
...Springsteen Live became the first album to debut at No. 1 on Billboard magazine's best-sellers chart since Stevie Wonder put out Songs in the Key of Life a full decade ago. Retailers signed up for an unprecedented initial shipment of 1.5 million Springsteen record, tape and compact disc sets, but those copies sold so fast that the stores have ordered 1.85 million more. Since the 40-song package sells for $20 to $30, vs. about $8 to $10 for a typical record or tape, Springsteen Live is expected to bring in more revenues?perhaps $450 million?than...
