...Artists gave him access because of that." Just as Miller pursues Stillwater's members for a cover story, Crowe wrangled Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin for the cover of Rolling Stone in 1975. But several rock heavyweights are reflected in Stillwater, a band that slides into discord (shades of the Allman Brothers, though no one in Stillwater dates Cher), takes a bumpy plane ride (like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Who) and performs a song called Fever Dog, written by Crowe and his wife, Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson, with a nod to Zeppelin's Black Dog. "There...

...American Marital Munitions Organization was founded on the principle that a robust marriage is a rocky one. But just as quarreling couples once struggled to achieve harmony, teaching harmonious couples to embrace discord can be equally challenging. Fortunately, ammo recently opened its first "Fight Club" to serve America's untroubled yet troubled marital population. More abstract and worrisome is the overall message the shows send: that life is an elimination contest, that difference means discord. The Real World is a sort of teen-friendly Adam-and-Eve story--seven young people, set up in a coolly furnished paradise, are bound to screw it up. Survivor and Big Brother change the reference from Genesis to Lord of the Flies and No Exit. But if what they show can be ugly, it's insulting to the audience to assume viewers must take this as a model for life--that's like saying Chinatown is an immoral...

...Giuliani smeared Dorismond by releasing his sealed juvenile-arrest records. When he blindsided his wife last week, it was just Rudy being Rudy. He said he was being "honest, direct and decent," but others thought he was being a heel. Giuliani strategists are clinging to the idea that marital discord can't hurt you in a race against a Clinton. But Rudy is running against the wronged woman, not the philandering man. And the pain in Hanover's eyes is not likely to be forgotten by some of the suburban women who until now supported Giuliani over Clinton...
