Bakkensen has consistently hurled the discus near the 170-foot mark, and copped the Heps title last year with a mere 158 ft., 1 1/2 in. toss. He could score a first place in every meet this season, with teammates Bill Pfeiffer and Tom Dillon battling the opposition for the lower positions...
Another certain victor will be sophomore John Bakkensen, University record holder in the discus. Only Yale's George Levendis will threaten Bakkensen. An interesting note will be the performance of freshman Chris Pardee, who has leaped 6 ft. 6 in. in the high jump...
...other Crimson stars were slightly disappointed in their eventual placings in the meet--exams forced both Art Doten and John Bakkensen to return to Cambridge after only four throws in the trials on Friday. Bakkensen had led the discus going into the finals with a throw of 165 ft. 9 1/2 in., but the sophomore was displaced by N.Y.U.'s 19 year-old giant Gary Gubner. Bakkensen barely held onto second place by seven inches...
