...betray the troops in the field [March 5]. Equating support for soldiers with military escalation is insidious. True support would be to remove them from harm's way. But I take exception to your affirmation that the cause - to remove a dictator - was worthy. That's just as dishonest as saying we need to continue the war to support the troops. Is the civil war that we unleashed a noble cause? Or was the arrogant pretext of imposing Western values on an ancient civilization really camouflage for establishing military bases in the Middle East and expanding the American empire? Nels...

...drivers and workers rights' advocates at NyayaBhoomi say the real crooks are the city officials. Senator John McCain has taken a similar path, calling those who would vote for the resolution "intellectually dishonest." He suggests the "honest" path for surge opponents would be to go ahead and cut off funds for the war. But the Senators who favor Warner-Levin are pointedly opposed to immediate withdrawal from Iraq. So who's being intellectually dishonest here? It is sad to see McCain and Lieberman disgracing themselves this way. It is tempting to say, "Shame on you," and leave it at that...
...Outraged Reaction Machine chews up gaffers and spits them out without making many distinctions. But we can make a few. Should it destroy your career to use the word faggot in the course of denying that you had used it before? Even if the denial is dishonest, it seems more like an apology than a repeat of the original crime. And is it really a gaffe if the alleged victim feels no pain? Rice complained about Boxer's passing remark only after the likes of Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh had made an issue of it. And neither...
