...should be said flat-out then: Naomi Judd and her daughter Wynonna, 21, are not only good enough to be jealous of, they are good enough to kick a little life into the listless country scene. "Disk jockeys are saying the Judds saved country music," says Naomi, in a slightly incredulous tone. It is at least true that the sweet-flowing harmonies of this mother-and-daughter act have earned them a brace of awards, including a 1985 Grammy, and sprightly record sales and airplay. They have also roped in a wide audience all the way from down-home...

...indefatigable traveler Voyager 2 as it approached its Jan. 24 rendezvous with the solar system's seventh planet. On that day, the spacecraft will swoop to within 50,000 miles of Uranus, which last week still looked to Voyager's cameras like a featureless, cloud-covered, blue-green disk. The temporary designation of the new moon, 1985 Ul, seems rather prosaic when compared with Uranus' five other satellites: Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon. But that should change this summer when the International Astronomical Union meets to assign permanent names to new discoveries. The I.A.U. might have its work...

...more graphic evidence of decadent splendor, Marcos-style, was afforded by a private collection of more than 500 videotapes unearthed in Manila and New York. In one of the tapes, taken by an exclusive presidential crew, Imelda cavorts with bejeweled guests in a private Malacaņang disco, complete with disk jockey's booth and man-made waterfall. Another video chronicles an abandoned bacchanal aboard the presidential yacht, celebrating the birthday of the youngest of the three Marcos offspring, Irene Araneta, last year. A man in a baby bonnet bursts out of a cake. The First Lady jives under flashing strobe...

...theft, which took place last year but was disclosed only last week, involved, among other things, some 40 advanced computer work stations manufactured by Tektronix, a small, specialized firm based in Beaverton, Ore., along with an unspecified number of computer disk drives produced by Control Data of Minneapolis. Tektronix salesmen apparently believed they had sold the equipment to a West German unit of Ford Motors through a Munich-based middleman named Wolfgang Lachmann. After the equipment was sent to Munich, it was allegedly shipped to a warehouse in Vienna; from there it disappeared...

...perils facing software publishers is the wholesale pirating of the copyrighted computer programs they produce and market. The problem arises because an unprotected program on a floppy disk, like music on a cassette or a movie on videotape, can easily be copied. Anyone with a personal computer and two disk drives need only insert an original disk in drive A, put a blank disk in drive B and type a few commands. In a matter of seconds, there will be a perfect, albeit illegal, copy of a program that in a computer store might cost hundreds of dollars...
