Usage:

...house at 3:15 p.m. and arrive at the Marine Air Terminal of LaGuardia at 3:40 for a 4:30 flight. Normally, this would be plenty of time. I enter the terminal through the main entrance and find myself redirected to a large white tent. To my dismay, Delta is not hosting a flea market for old blankets, pillows, and peanuts or offering a circus show with tigers jumping through rings of fire for my pre-flight entertainment. I have to stand in line under this white tent just to get inside of the terminal--not a good omen...

...sure that eventually the Henry Hydes and Bob Barrs of the world will emerge with their inquiries and impeachment trials, and that tens of millions will be spent on subpoenas rather than soup kitchens. It is hard to avoid a feeling of anger and dismay when one considers how Clinton brought the Monica ordeal on himself, when one wonders how much could have been accomplished during the time the nation wasted. Character matters because a candidate's time in office must be spent on the nation's business, not on providing fodder for the Drudge Report...

...catastrophe, the theory begins to seem far-fetched and totally passe. The once spell-bounding specter of spreading deserts, of global famine, of expensive real estate on the Florida panhandle disappearing beneath the Atlantic as unforgiving waters reclaim Vero Beach, no longer invokes a powerful reaction of shock and dismay. Why agree to impose on ourselves expensive pollution controls that will slow production, simply for the sake of preventing something that seems more fantasy than reality...
