Ringling has long been the crown jewel of Feld Entertainment. The company, based in Vienna, Va., also produces Disney on Ice and will soon launch a Winnie-the-Pooh live-entertainment show. Until entertainer Roy Horn's near fatal encounter with a tiger last year, the company also had a steady money-maker as producer of Siegfried & Roy in Las Vegas. The privately held company doesn't disclose its finances, but Feld indicated that the circus business lately has been far from spectacular. Ringling revenues are up 13% over the past five years and 36% over the past decade. According...

Saddleback has become a bustling megachurch, with an annual operating budget of more than $19 million, and now sits on an immaculate 120-acre campus, designed by some of the folks who planned Disney's theme parks, in the placid Orange County community of Lake Forest, 65 miles south of Los Angeles. On weekends the 15,000 members and about 5,000 visitors choose from services at six different times and 10 different venues around the campus--some with live preachers, some on closed-circuit TV--offering a variety of worship and music styles ranging from quiet hymns...

...Ratso Rizzo's. In the 1970s, 42nd Street was overrun with porn shops, junkies and bus-station hustlers. Traub adroitly explains how a combination of municipal power and rising real estate values succeeded in driving out the rot. In a new world of tall towers and chain stores, the Disney company played both beauty and the beast--corporate pioneer in the once skanky wilderness but also chief symbol of the bland mass marketplace that the Square is today. It's not just the squalid 42nd Street of the '70s that has been wiped away. It's the rich, wild tangle...

This film bears absolutely no resemblance to Japanime or any Disney movie, and is undoubtedly the best animated feature released in 2003. Sylvain Chomet’s film aims for a multinational texture and is largely devoid of dialogue, but nevertheless retains a distinctly French sensibility with a penchant for shrewd cultural allusions. A clubfooted widow, Madame Souza, trains her chubby grandson Champion to become a stick-thin cyclist with the help of bulky canine Bruno and her restless whistle. One day, Champion is mysteriously kidnapped, along with two of his fellow Tour de France riders, by amusingly ominous members...
