...chest and 20-ft. arm span, the $2 million anthropoid is animated by 4,500 ft. of electrical wiring, 3,100 ft. of hydraulic hose and 50 hydraulic jacks that control his movements. The critics may term his acting mechanical, but at least the bionic baboon has seven distinct facial expressions, which is six more than the bionic man can claim. Kong's most embarrassing problem: because of leaky jacks, a steady stream of fluid oozes down his right...

There was a distinct Populist strain in Carter's campaign for Governor in 1970. He ran against the former Governor, who got to be known-not by Jimmy-as "Cuff Links" Carl Sanders; he also ran against what he called "the economic elite and the political power brokers." One of his most effective TV spots in that campaign showed Carter walking up to the door of a country club and having it slammed in his face. He pronounced himself a people's candidate, unwelcome in the banks and board rooms. As Governor, he made some enemies among businessmen...

The problem of integrating these groups pales, however, in the face of the Boston school situation. "We now know," Orthal says, "that our problems are not that bad. Remember, we have Jews from 72 nations--but we are all Jews...

...last week as "the best book ever written." Although Mondale is one of the most liberal men in the Senate, Carter found him undogmatic, practical and ideologically as well as personally compatible. Carter was impressed that Mondale served on the Senate Finance and Budget committees; that proved a distinct plus in the eyes of the Georgian, a trained engineer who relies heavily on concepts of planning and management. Unlike Muskie, Mondale is a new face, a new generation. What is more, as a friend points out: "He is an ideal choice in the post-Watergate period. He is the world...
