There are no bad ideas when trying to interrupt a possible sexual assault. You can talk to your friend and persuade him or her that it’s not a good idea, distract your friend with dance or conversation or pretend that you’re sick and you need your friend to take care...
...formal denial of civil rights and benefits afforded to others—call it marriage, civil union or any other name. Neither can we condone the perpetuation of a divisive culture war whose battles are all too staged, spurred by transparent and cynical ploys to deceive voters and distract attention from pressing issues of national concern. The foibles in the fiction prompt a host of questions that distract from the substantive reflection that the film would otherwise promote. Johnston aims to debunk the myths of the Afghani situation, but should have realized that original footage of a war zone’s unseen chaos speaks for itself...
