...issue of Lewis' honesty resurfaced this week when a judge in U.S. district court rejected a proposed settlement struck between Bank of America and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over Merrill bonuses. The SEC and Bank of America had earlier agreed that the bank would pay a $33 million penalty to settle an investigation into whether it misled shareholders about year-end payouts on the eve of a vote to approve the merger. In the aftermath of an Aug. 8, 2008 incident in which HUPD officers confronted a young black man attempting to remove a lock from his own bicycle, Walsh wrote a firmly-worded letter to the district attorney of Boston to voice his concern about the growing disconnect between Harvard police and students, according to his daughter. “He used to walk the Yard, and he would know students by name...but the police and students no longer know each other on a personal level,” Barbara Walsh...

He was told to hire his top staff by merit. Instead, he hired only Barakzais - which caused the tribe's leaders to switch sides from the Taliban to the government ... and caused most of the other tribes in the district to switch from the government to the Taliban. Afghanistan, it turns out, befuddles even Afghans. And for foreigners, "victory" there is a handful of smoke...
