Japan and China? Between Tsushima, where the Japanese sank the Russian fleet, and Pearl Harbor, where they wiped out America's, the sons of Nippon did not even know from coffee; all they had was green tea. Ditto the Chinese when they chased American soldiers down the Korean Peninsula. Ditto the British, who for 400 years ruled the seas while swilling Java that was as tasty as their food. Tiny Israel has bested the Arabs in five wars. And why? Because Israeli "coffee" could eat through the armor of a Soviet-built T-72 in three minutes...
...expect to be in a much higher tax bracket next year, however, you should do the opposite. Ditto if you'll get hit with the alternative minimum tax in 1999. Before making any move, in fact, you should consult a tax pro to figure out if the amt applies. Once only the superrich were vulnerable, but now many upper-middle-class taxpayers get hit. There's Amos Force (Keith Perry), the conservative Yankee who will do whatever it takes to see the Irish mayor lose; Francis Jr. (John P. Arnold), the mayor's playboy, finger-snapping son; obsequious, bumbling Ditto (Paul Kerry), the mayor's would-be right-hand man, and so on, and so on. Indeed, since these minor players never develop beyond...

What saved me was the merest fluke: apart from punctured lungs, a few picturesque cuts and some bruising to my liver and heart, the damage was all skeletal, not soft tissue. My brain was intact; ditto my eyes, spine, guts and genitals. It could so easily have been otherwise, and in the weeks since I have sometimes thought how wildly, irrationally lucky I was to be spared. But not at the time. With the remains of my rented Japanese car folded around me like crude origami...
...Hatosy. He's not so much a goofball as a radical innocent trying to pick up the clues to the preppie lifestyle but at the same time remaining fiercely loyal to his family and friends back home. It's a touching quality, and the actor engagingly lives it. Ditto Baldwin as his roughneck father, who has a depressive's shrewdness about other people's weaknesses as well as a depressive's inability to do anything about his own life, which consists mainly of railing at his children and playing poker with his boozy cronies...
