...bullfights were fixed, just like prizefights, Willie figured he was onto a good thing. The next week he was in the stands when Miguelin tackled a big bull with an unpronounceable name-and he laid some fan at ringside 5½ to 7½ that unpronounceable would take a dive. Willie collected when a fan ran out, pulled the bull's tail, and the beast just stood there looking silly. Miguelin polished the bull off as fast as he could and headed for the exit, ducking shrapnel from the stands...

Then came the worst plague-a drenching thunderstorm and an on-and-off drizzle climaxed by a 17-hour deluge. Before it ended, the greensward had been churned into six inches of gumbo as thick as Delta farm land, and clouds of mosquitoes dive-bombed the dwellers. To avert dysentery and flu epidemics, the leaders evacuated 100 of the 2,400 residents, mostly toddlers, until the campsite could dry out. Many of the poor urban whites' children hang out, sullen and sledge-fisted, at places like "The Lunch Pail," a tawdry dive on Chicago's seamy North Side; many become winos, staggering along the hallways in search of a corner to crumple up in. There are 30,000 Appalachians in the North Side area, a melting pot of penury composed of 10,000 Indians, 5,000 Puerto Ricans and Mexicans, and a smattering of Eskimos and Cuban refugees...

Cinemascope Production. Israeli farmers got a panoramic view of the battle from slit trenches near the river. They called it "a Cinemascope production." The broad Beisan valley, green with ripening winter crops and blossoming trees, was painted with countless columns of rising black smoke. Israeli planes dive-bombed Jordanian positions, then wheeled west into the sun to confound the aim of Arab anti aircraft gunners. The village of Tel el-Arbain, an El Fatah commando base, was in flames. A Jordanian oil dump near the river burned an ominous red far into the night...

...terradynamics"-engineers have used projectiles weighing from 5 Ibs. to 6,000 Ibs. that strike the earth vertically at speeds of from 41 m.p.h. to 1,870 m.p.h., depending on the drop altitude and method of release. Some are merely shoved out of airplanes or hovering helicopters; others are dive-bombed or rocketed to boost their velocities. The best penetrators, Sandia has found, are pencil-shaped missiles of heavy metal that are at least 8 to 10 times longer than their diameters. Some have plunged more than 200 ft. into the earth...
