...confess--staring at a camera in the Oval Office, reading a TelePrompTer. The dramaturgy is flat. Even Richard Nixon in his 1952 Checkers speech--the prototype of aggressive self-defense through televised "confession"--used poor Pat as a studio prop and, of course, conjured up the adorable, absent dog...
...made some progressions here and there. I entered my internship this summer at Little, Brown and Co. Publishing with a wary eye but an open mind; I was greeted with a lively job alongside some great people who love books as much as I do and who bring fake dog poo and vomit to work for kicks. I splurged on renting a gorgeous but mildly expensive house near campus with some friends; I have now nearly fallen in love with the quirky place. Snoop wants out of the dog-house. Snoop Dogg was one of gangsta rap's first megastars, but as of late, his album sales have slumped. She has a mentally retarded brother, Warren, whom she loves deeply and cares for so much...
...funny, but disgusting at the same time. All the characters, especially Ted, seem to be getting seriously harmed, which provides for some humor, but is not nearly as funny as the mix-ups and identity changes that make the movie so unique. Several scenes involve cruelty to a little dog which is killed and brought back to life in the same evening by the ever resourceful Healy. Even more un-funny elements of the film are the parts in which mentally retarded or disabled individuals are the targets of bad jokes. It is one thing to poke fun at Healy...
