...Cardijn calls it "the Jocist Sacrament." For the aim of Jocism is peaceful revolution, a Christian upsurge in the ranks of labor, based not upon Marxian materialism but upon the labor encyclicals of Popes Leo XIII and Pius XI. Jocism in doctrinates its 500,000 youngsters with that Catholic dogma which many non-Catholics (and lapsed Catholics like Hitler and Mussolini) find difficult to understand-the Mystical Body of Christ, in which, with Christ as the Head, Christians are members, in a living association which transcends nationalist and political ties...

...keeping with his prime tenet-that the General Staff should not find him a pliant Secretary-Louis Johnson takes an impish delight in upsetting army dogma and army officers. Though it is distinctly outside his province as Assistant Secretary, he once decided that too many enlisted men were serving as dog-robbers (officers' servants). A series of telegrams and cables querying every army post confirmed this conclusion, resulted in a marked reduction in the number on dog-duty. At present Mr. Johnson (himself a Lieutenant Colonel of Reserves) is concerned with the army's overgrown list of colonels...

...Last year the 20 major Protestant denominations of the U. S. collected $15,000,000 more than the year before. So last week reported the United Stewardship Council, representing 23 U. S. and Canadian churches. The council's report bore out the familiar U. S. dogma that country folk are more religious than city people; churches with rural constituents showed the greatest increase in giving. Highest per cent gains were in the Church of the Brethren, 16%, and the Church of the Nazarene, 13%. The Southern Baptists gave $2,300.120 more than the year before, an 8% increase. Next...

...through the ideas of his parents, to regard society as static and immovable. College exposes him to more liberal thought; but at the same time his teachers, failing to realize that in him is the power to interpret for society by sheer inspiration the sum of knowledge, speak uncompromising dogma. By indifferently tolerating the student's enthusiasm, they tend to make him doubt his own ideals. But still persisting, youth enters the world, the exhortations of commencement orators in his cars, only to find all doors closed. Deprived of his rightful command when in the prime of life, like...
