Unnikrishnan hams it up remarkably well with lots of giggly smirks and "Aw, shucks" glances, but at times this silliness comes out as slightly effeminate camp--manly gondolieri do not typically bat their eyelashes when they're being serenaded by a lovely contadine...

...soon revealed that Mrs. Prentice herself is similarly unclothed, having been sexually assaulted by (orbeen assaulting?) a bellhop (James Carmichael, '01), who subsequently enters and manages to also become undressed. Bring into the confusion an overzealous Psychiatric Commissioner of the British Parliament ("Dr. Groves", Brendan Greaves, '00) and a doltish Police Sergeant (Will Burke, '99), and soon more than half the cast is running around naked and all are certifiably insane...

...winningly zany, jumping for any chance at a tragic suicide, and she relishes her lascivious double-entendres so much that we can't help but join in. Erik Amblad is surprisingly good in his brief serious scene from Othello, and plays both Tybalt and Constance's boss with doltish pride tempered by the right hint of self-mockery; his turn in drag, as Juliet's Nurse is low comedy but well done...

...half is dominated by Pippa Pearthree as the most successful of the clan's three adult daughters, a lesbian lawyer with a taste for vengeance and violence. There are also plenty of laughs for Alexandra Gersten as a daughter forever finding herself, William Youmans as a good- natured but doltish son-in-law prone to getting beaten up (he does an exquisite ballet of pain as an arm in a sling gets wrenched anew) and Jack Wallace as a veteran cop full of salty scorn for anything he cannot understand. The opening act is a fast 90 minutes...
