...Hayden Planetarium from the ground up, lots of New Yorkers screamed to the heavens--and Neil de Grasse Tyson, the planetarium's recently appointed director, couldn't blame them. For more than 60 years, the Hayden had been bringing the stars to sky-deprived city dwellers, and its frumpy dome, slapped onto the museum's north side, had played host to generations of visitors. That included Tyson himself, whose career as an astrophysicist was first inspired by visits to the Hayden from his boyhood Bronx...

...issue of race in the impeachment trial flared briefly, but died just as quickly because it had little merit. Indeed, the entire saga of Burton-centered controversies will most likely fade into the student body's collective consciousness. The best scandals (Watergate, the Teapot Dome) succeed because they contain kernels of truth. With regard to the council's controversy, members of the body are still unsure whether or not Driskell and Burton actually overspent their campaign limit. ...deliberate effort to whitewash all that ugly history. Take the national Capitol in Washington. Many of the huge sandstone blocks it's built out of were quarried by slave laborers. In fact, The Statue of Freedom--the figure of a Native American woman warrior that stands on the dome--was cast in bronze by slave laborers in 1863 and hoisted up there. You'd think there would be a national museum or monument to them, but there isn't even a plaque...

It's Gilligan's Island, except he has everything." Zorn may have a point. If his own experience is a guide, the true test of DotComGuy's character will come 11 months from now, when he will have to face the outside world again, no longer safely cocooned inside the Web. Perhaps he'll retreat when he finally sees his shadow...

...clock in Times Square just click over? Did some great historic moment just explode in the Millennium Dome? If so, someone neglected to inform the "living faces" that preside unchallenged over the loneliest island community in the world (in the same time zone, though hardly the same century, as New York City). On New Year's Eve, grass-skirted dancers perform under fireworks in front of the ancestral figures; but come New Year's Day, all is just eerie midsummer stillness again, the only sound the wind whistling in your ears. It may be that something tumultuous happened to your...
