Everquest raises the bar again. Three years in the making at Sony's 989 Studios in San Diego, it's the role-playing market's first 3-D online world, a lush environment reminiscent of immersive shoot-'em-ups like Quake and Doom. ...enjoyed Jackson's report, "A Room Full of Doom," but after reading about the desensitizing carnage that's in video and computer games and on television and movie screens, and hearing Marilyn Manson labeled the Antichrist of modern music, I'm patiently awaiting an intensive study on the types of poor parenting that leave our children bereft of proper morals. Another thrill ride, Dr. Doom's Fear Fall, is supposed to extract "raw human fear" from the brains of its strapped-in victims, but it's just a fresh version of the Big Shot, a four-G slingshot perched 1,000 ft. above Las Vegas, atop the Stratosphere Hotel. ...school and in my early 30s when I first played the game Doom. I soon caught the fever; Doom is nothing if not intense. For several weeks, if I wasn't studying or in class, I was playing Doom. If the game can affect a law student this way, I can only imagine the effect it must have on immature high school losers. I am convinced that violent computer games, much like alcohol and pornography, should be kept out of the hands of those younger than age 21. ANDREW PARMA San Antonio, Texas...
