...Next, the candidate must compile a detailed dossier with 23 different elements. The professor must include in the dossier a copy of every academic work she’s ever authored, including those that have yet to see a publisher. Dossiers often include books and other very long works and can be 1,000 pages or longer. Theoretically, everyone who reviews the dossier reads the entire collection...
...That interaction, and the politicization of the government information machine under Campbell, goes to the heart of his darkest period. Campbell's bitter dispute with the BBC after its correspondent Andrew Gilligan said in 2003 that Campbell had "sexed up" a government dossier about Saddam Hussein's weapons capability still occludes his achievements. The row claimed several scalps at the BBC, including Gilligan's and the broadcaster's top two bosses. The government scientist David Kelly, unmasked as Gilligan's source, took his own life. Katsav denies the charges. On June 28, Mazuz dropped his bombshell. Instead of indicting the President on rape charges, the Attorney General cut a deal with him. Katsav is expected to resign and be indicted on lesser charges of sexual harassment and indecent behavior. And, to the outrage of many Israeli commentators and feminists...
...continues the GSAS effort this year to further professionalize the experience of teaching fellows. In December, the Faculty passed legislation that would require all teaching fellows to be evaluated by their undergraduate students even in cases where professors refuse to be evaluated. Now, the committee plans on implementing dossiers for graduate students so that they can demonstrate their teaching experience to people hiring inside and outside Harvard. A dossier would include documentation of experience as well as awards and honors. Graduate students have asked for a more formalized system, Skocpol said. Among its other recommendations, the report encourages greater faculty...
