Doubles matches, which have been an area of concern throughout the season, proved a source of joy for the women in white yesterday.
"It wasn't really tennis," doubles player Janet Clark said yesterday, referring to the inclement weather conditions that prevailed at Soldiers' Field. "Tennis ceases to be a game of skill when you've got 50 mile-an-hour winds whipping the ball around."
In doubles play, Tufts sealed its victory by sailing past Elizabeth St. Goar and Beth Craig, 7-5, 6-2. The icing on the cake came with a three-set loss by Terry Clarke and Janet Clark, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In the wake of an unconditional surrender to Williams last Saturday, Jenny St. Goar and Beth Craig capped Radcliffe's 6-1 victory over MIT with a third set, 7-6 tiebreaker doubles win yesterday on the Soldiers Field courts.
The racquetwomen's only loss came with a doubles forfeit resulting from schedule conflicts. Similar conflicts last week "had a lot to do with our loss to Williams," Wynn said.
