Also, not only were the lighting cues simply disconnected with the action but they sometimes seemed even downright manic. Though the finale to act one (Billy’s “Soliloquy”) ended with a nice silhouette against a black background, it took a trippy migration through the entire color wheel to get there. Life on American Idol has been downright off-key lately. First, an onscreen phone-number foul-up forced Fox to give viewers a second chance to vote. Then Idol judge Paula Abdul was fined and placed on probation for a hit-and-run accident (no one was injured) that happened on a California freeway last December. The good news is that Idol is TV's top-rated show, drawing more than 25 million viewers a pop. Maybe Miss Rush, Rush can spring for a limo...
