...another slam-bang rock 'n' roll number in every four or five minutes without risking a stylistic break. That way the sequences of Melvin Belli negotiating for the Stones, virtually the only explanation tendered in the entire film concerning who is responsible for what, are not permitted to drag on at "unnecessary" length, a few shots of Belli in his preposterous office deemed sufficient to reveal all, and then again, it's the Angels who are the pigs, right? But most importantly, the device is real Teen Scene stuff: given the Indochinese War, racism, a murder, or some other tragedy...

...between viewers who call or write and say they're so grateful to be able to switch away from yakking actresses and the necessity of having the yakking starlets for the ratings. It would be an awful lot easier to just not give a damn. It's such a drag. I sometimes wish I had made a clear decision that I was going to be strictly commercial or that I was going to provide a radical alternative. But either would have been a false decision. ...hitch-hiking, visiting the countryside (illustrated by third-rate Sierra Club-style photographs adorned with Whitman quotes), and the Hasty Pudding Show. This latter good thing is a perfect demonstration of Three Thirty Five's lack of editorial credibility and clarity. I, for one, don't feel that a drag show put on for half-dead alumni deserves space over the worthier enterprises around Cambridge that have been left out of the book (e.g., the women's movement). But, assuming for a moment that the Hasty Pudding Show is representative of an important part of Harvard...
