...requires Britain to be more educated about Muslim values and beliefs. Too often, Muslim sentiments are misunderstood or regarded with contempt, intensifying the likelihood of conflict over divisive issues such as the knighting of Salman Rushdie or incendiary cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Likewise, the wish of Muslims to dress in a particular way is too often treated suspiciously or derisively...

Born in 1912, she was christened Claudia Alta Taylor, but dubbed "Lady Bird" by a family maid because she was "pretty as a lady bird" and Lady Bird she was for the rest of her life. A large portrait of her wearing a long, billowing pale blue dress, carrying a broad-brimmed hat amid a field of Texas bluebonnets stands in the LBJ Library, capturing both that southern gentility and her passion for nature. But her lilting, soft and round East Texas accent, her passion for natural beauty and her devotion to a man some found loud and crude, masked...

...Back on the marriage track: Alber Elbaz introduced a small collection of Lanvin bridal dresses earlier in the week. They're not haute couture, rather the opposite. "Either you start with a dream and make it commercial, or you start with a need and then make it a dream," he explained. And, according to Elbaz, what a modern bride needs is an off-the-rack wedding dress - a short beaded tunic perhaps - that they can wear on the beach in Bali when they tie the knot. Elbaz has mastered the look of French nonchalence at Lanvin without even doing couture...
