...face it, the Pope is a snappy dresser. When he visits Cuba this week, he will be donning at least half a dozen outfits. But John Paul II isn't just a Beau Brummel; most of his wardrobe has a symbolic religious aspect. The Italian firm Gammarelli's has served as a papal tailor for nearly 200 years. The Vatican also has its own seamstresses, and there are four black-robed nuns who oversee his considerable laundry. Using your very own John Paul II cutout doll, you can create your favorite papal ensembles...

Feeney then retreated from the front pages, declining all interview requests. Friends helped assemble the fragments of his life: born poor in Elizabeth, N.J.; fiercely loyal to his ancestral Ireland and his alma mater, Cornell; a "shabby" dresser who flies coach and does not own a house or car. Reports of Feeney's modest trappings are true, save one--that he wears a $15 watch. A spokesman says it cost five bucks...

Where do these items go? What does one do with a megaphone, anyway? Living in a tiny Adams House single, I tend to stack items on my dresser, leaving it crowded with silly plastic toys. My mug collection grew so large last year my roommates made me ship two boxes of mugs home to my parents...

Oddly enough, men play almost an incidental role in Sayuri's life as a geisha. She spends her evening hours being attractive and attentive to the men she entertains and excites at the scores of parties she pops in and out of, yet scarcely sees another man besides her dresser at any other time. The main figures in a geisha's life are all female. Even during the evening, while seemingly enthralled with the men she is with, a geisha is likely to be secretly worrying about a catty rivalry with some other geisha rather than about the men themselves...
