WASHINGTON: Still confused about the dress mess? The one at the FBI lab right now is blue, high-necked and from the Gap -- that much we know. But fans of this most salacious patch of the Lewinsky scandal (and who isn't one?) will remember that the media's February frock frenzy included tales of another dress, generally held to be a slinky black cocktail number, that seemed to mysteriously morph into the blue dress in reports this week...
...TIME Washington correspondent Elaine Shannon says that the other dress -- indeed, dresses -- was no canard. A slew of them, including the black one, was packed up by prosecutors after that first unfruitful closet search. (The blue dress, you'll recall, had been stashed at Monica's mother's.) And several did have suspicious-looking stains on the front, which were subsequently tested by the FBI. The result, says Shannon, was anticlimactic: "Apparently, Monica was a sloppy eater." So it seems Monica's wardrobe could lead in two directions: to the White House or the Golden Arches...

...That question, and little else, dominated the Sunday talk shows. Even the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee got in on the dress debate: "If the tests are positive," said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) "then the next question is, will the President submit to giving samples so they can match the DNAs if they are matchable?" Test results notwithstanding, Hatch led the chorus of calls for Clinton to make a televised mea culpa on the Lewinsky affair and even offered to "be there to try to help him if he will." Even assuming he has something to repent, however...
