Well, enough for now--lest I weary you too much. I think we're going to get a rest for a spell now--after 2 1-2 months of constant jumping. With the rounding out of the first month of its existence, the S. A. T. C. has reached its full stride at the University. The men have been given thorough training in the rudiments of military science, namely, close order drill, physical exercises, guard duty, and the elementary work in the Small Arms Firing Manual. Besides this they have also been instructed for a short period every morning in the new British bayonet-fighting system. Despite the handicaps which he had to overcome, the University coach has whipped his men into a formidable team. Players have been unable to practice regularly because of military and academic engagements. It was suggested that the players be allowed to practice football instead of attending one of the drill periods for the remaining few weeks of the football season, but the military officials would not allow it, although the naval leaders had no objection to the plan.
