...Field yesterday afternoon was not as encouraging as it has been for the past few days. The work was light again, the coaches seeming to be anxious over the condition of a good many of the first string men. There was no scrimmaging during the afternoon and the signal drill and formations which were run through by the teams were much shorter than usual for mid-week practice. It now seems probable that scrimmages will be few and far between before the Dartmouth and Yale games, for there are no chances to be taken in getting the men overtrained...
Coach Gardiner gave the men a short blackboard talk commenting on the Worcester game, and describing some new formations which the squad later tried out on the field. A short practice at drop-kicking preceded a very thorough signal drill for both the first team and the substitutes. Work ended with a few minutes at catching and running down under punts, a department of the game which promises to receive considerable attention before the week...
Contrary to the custom of having a light practice on Monday, yesterday's drill for the University squad was long and hard. Behind the closed gates the men were driven at top speed for two hours, the greater part of the time being spent in scrimmages although the coaches watched each man carefully. Parmenter, who has not been in the scrimmages since the Princeton game, was back in his place at centre and seemed in the best of condition. Trumbull's position at right guard was filled by Driscoll as the former is still a trifle stiff as the result...
...University football squad experienced one of the hardest practices of the season yesterday afternoon, the coaches lining up Team A against Team B and giving the former a long drill in offensive work. Many new line plays and formations, devised for the Dartmouth and Yale games, were tried out. Although no especial attempt to score was made, Brickley and Hollister each kicked a field-goal for his team in the course of scrimmage...
Captain Wendell's ankle has progressed so well that he took part in the practice for a short time. Later Bradlee was substituted for him. Coolidge and Trumbull watched the drill from the sidelines, and Parmenter was also out of practice, being given another day of rest. Owing to Bradley's badly sprained ankle, Gardner and Freedley are now the only quarterbacks on the squad, and it is probable that Hollister and Logan will receive coaching in this position from now on. One of the changes of the afternoon, was the shifting of H. Frothingham from end to the backfield...
