This process does not ensure drivel. Casablanca had seven writers, Tootsie eight, It's a Wonderful Life 10, yet each film summoned a seamless verbal style, abundant in wit. These commodities are out of fashion today. Sister Act could have been written by one guy who looked at old movies and decided they were about spiritual uplift made easy. ...contrast, Married is a truly disgusting show about wretched people. "Love" never enters into it. This "family" would probably benefit from nice, Kramer-style divorce. And as for the American Sitcom, this show represents everything that is mediocre--no, reprehensible--about the drivel that nightly spews from our television sets. ...sure, many TV shows are drivel. But using them to indict all of television is intellectually dishonest, NBC's decision to air Manimal doesn't make L.A. Law a bad show. Anyone who mentions Hard Copy and Nightline in the same breath is simply an idiot. If you watch Nova you'll learn something; if you watch Freddy's Nightmares, you won't. It's just common sense...
