...driver let us out at the highway that would take us to Santa Fe and Taos. Before getting on the highway, however, we walked over to a Denny's Drive-In. A sign at the door said shoes were required, so Yana wore my size 11 sneakers. She remarked that society was backwards; the waitress served her first, but Man was supposed to go before Woman...

Everything in The Testament of Dr. Mabuse has become directly physical. Mabuse controls men by telephone, not by hypnosis. He kills them by shutting them in rooms to starve instead, as with the first Mabuse's Richard Fleury, of working on their sensibilities to drive them to suicide. Reports the magazine: "Parents and preachers, roused by a badly bungled moral code, banned bundling; better heating in larger homes cooled it. Bundling has been rekindled by a spark from a new moral code." Said the president of the Pottstown bundlers: "In many colleges, boys and girls today...

...equipment. Nader sympathizes with them but argues that the automakers could reduce prices by at least $700 per car if they would do away with costly annual style changes. Even Lyndon Johnson, who signed the 1966 auto-safety bill into law, has found some Nader innovations irritating. On a drive across his Texas ranch, L.B.J. noticed a spot on the windshield of his new Chrysler and groped for the washer and wiper knobs. Still unfamiliar with the Nader-inspired safety feature of non-protruding knobs, Johnson pawed at the dashboard in vain while he continued to drive. Utterly frustrated...
