...drive from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, to the hill station of Abbottabad usually takes two hours. But when the recently suspended Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry drove that route to address the local bar association two weeks ago, the journey clocked in at 14. Every small town and junction along the way was thronged with cheering crowds. Banners waved, music blared, and dancing ponies performed. Crowds at rallies for Pervez Musharraf can be just as big, but these days most of the President's well-wishers are bused in. "The government rents crowds for their rallies...
...public streets - hardly an invasion of privacy. Over several months, Google staff (who took shots in San Francisco), as well as employees of a third-party firm (which did the same in Miami, Denver, New York and Las Vegas), equipped vehicles in select cities with imaging equipment and drove the streets, snapping photos of everything in sight. After a series of punts, the Crimson appeared to be driving for an insurance score when, with 6:31 to play in the fourth quarter, a trick-play pass from sophomore wideout Chris Sanders was intercepted. The Tigers promptly drove on the short field, only to face third-and-four at the Crimson 39. A third-down pass was apparently broken up, but a controversial unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called, giving the Tigers new life. Two plays later, Princeton quarterback Jeff Terrell hit Brendan Circle for a 20-yard touchdown pass...
...Matthews, who was stopped in his car by police hours later. Hayes, a friend, was with him. Both Matthews and Hayes, 17 at the time and described to be borderline mentally disabled, admitted they were involved with the murder. Matthews was sentenced to death, and Hayes, who said he drove the getaway car, was convicted of second-degree murder...
