...whirlwind weekend was centered around David—my temporary grandfather during our stay (or so I dreamed)—who drove us everywhere during the week. Though his previous passengers had included Beyoncé Knowles and Christina Aguilera, he assured me that I’m (almost) as cool. I’ll take that. A free tour of the parliament building and a tourist-centric ghost tour of Edinburgh were matched with champagne, golf lessons from a pro, and an introduction to the infamous pubs. And even though my quest to find my prince of the United...
Last Saturday, Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, according to one of his aides, warned the U.S. ambassador that he was "not America's man in Iraq." On Tuesday he drove home the point, ordering an end to the U.S. military cordon around the Baghdad Shi'ite stronghold of Sadr City - a demand with which the U.S. military complied. Although U.S. troops don't take orders from the Iraqi government, refusing to heed the writ of that democratically elected government would make the U.S. military presence in that country untenable. First it was the Muzak that drove me out of most stores, then the scented candles in gift shops. Whew! I turned and ran. Now more scents in every store? I simply dislike artificial scents, but many people are hypersensitive to smells and can be made ill by them. I guess there's always mail order and online shopping...
...junior John Hopkins recovered the ball at the Dartmouth 25. Just two plays later, Dawson found the end zone again, this time from 18 yards out. The extra point was blocked, giving Harvard at 13-0 lead. After forcing the Big Green into a three-and-out, the Crimson drove 47 yards in 12 plays, capped off by a Dawson touchdown plunge from a yard out on fourth and goal, his third touchdown of the game. Freshman running back Cheng Ho added a two-point conversion, putting Harvard ahead 21-0, which remained the halftime score after a field goal...
