...even the boardwalk. A few days after the funeral, I drove out to the Jersey Shore to watch the sunrise. Walking on the familiar wooden slats, I passed the arcade that my parents took me to as a child. There were still a few pinball machines left amid the new video games. Somehow, I didn't have the urge to drop in a single coin. But I did imagine a time when I could take my own kids down to the beach and let them play to their hearts' content...

"You look like the sixth member of 'Nsync," said one. "Hooray!" I replied. But the boos and flying butternut squash drove me back to my room to change... I hear that the zambonis at the Hockey Center are having spontaneous combustion problems. Hockey games never seem to get that big a crowd, but I have no doubt that all of Harvard would turn up to watch a zamboni on fire...
