TMBG definitely had the audience in the palms of their hand. The roadie carrying a glockenspiel garnered a huge response as he shimmied onstage so Dan the drummer could play a note every minute or so in "Shoehorn with Teeth." The marionette head replicas of the two Johns which "sang" "Exquisite Dead Guy" to start off the encore were perfect agents of distraction for the horribly dissonant harmonies (if you will) that are the framework of that song...
...sound. Licenses and permits are valid from January 1st to December 31st, and are issued by most city clerks, Division offices and outlets, although one doesn't often witness Christy's doling out trout stamps with lottery tickets. In "One More Murder," the first single off the new album and on the X-Files summer movie soundtrack, Griffin's vocals are restrained and the guitar is absent for much of the song. Drummond and McNabb combine for some funky bass lines and techno beats, which are also prevalent on the first track, "Je ne m'en Souviens pas." More than...
...Steve Hoss, the drummer, delivered the surprise of the evening. Hoss had flown to Rochester earlier that day to teach and returned to Boston for the concert before traveling to Europe for another show. His passionate playing contained sounds reminiscent of the same African drumbeats that lead to the beginnings of jazz. Lonnie Plaxico on bass, who had lost his waist-length dreds for a shaved look, rounded off the quartet...
