...media’s limitations. Here at Harvard people tend to be rapid consumers of news. We could use some bifocals just as much as Bush. Now, if that could happen wouldn’t it be a truly stellar “vision thing”?Charles R. Drummond ’09, a Crimson editorial comper, is a history oncentrator in Adams House...
...editors: I am writing to refute the arguments of Charles Drummond (“Girl Interrupted,” comment, April 26). Kaavya Viswanathan, in her debut novel, has not taken “few plot points and a borrowed phrase every 10 pages,” but something much more egregious than that. She has taken the plot, prose, and language from another novel and with no reinvention whatsoever tried to pass them off as her own. Bono riffs a bit, hoping to stumble onto something inspirational. Then he says, "I'm crushed." Flashbulbs pop. "Crushed makes it personal," Drummond whispers in agony. "And it's past tense, like we've failed. It takes the air out of the room." In minutes the quote is on Canadian news websites. On the way out, Bono shakes his head. "Crushed. That was shite." A few days later, Martin says that as soon...
