...Harvard defense was strong and the Andover team in consequence adopted punting tactics from the start. The second eleven reached Andover's one yard line once where a fumble lost the ball, and was within five yards of the goal twice. Failure to score in these cases was due chiefly to the fumbling of the second eleven's backs, but the Andover team's defence was very strong, in one case holding the second eleven for downs at the five yard line. In punting, Andover was very strong and the second eleven very weak, so that Andover gained greatly...

Harvard defeated West Point on Saturday by the score of 29 to 0. The high score was due principally to the large number of costly fumbles made by the West Point backs and to the advantage of weight in the Harvard line. Harvard also made two fumbles at critical times, besides losing a great deal of distance and chances to score through off-side play and holding. In spite of this, however, the team had little difficulty in making regular gains, principally through the line, the whole eleven playing a snappy and fast offensive game. Nevertheless, whenever West Point...

...first eleven kept the ball out of its own territory fairly well and a few times came near the goal line, but it was twice held for downs on the ten yard line and again lost a good chance to score by a fumble. Much of this weakness was due to the fact that there were five substitutes on the team, but the work of the regular line men was very slow. They were unable to open holes for the backs and did no effective work on the offense. The whole team was slow in getting down the field...

...game was full of sensational plays, as neither team tried many mass plays, but made for the most part long end runs. The Harvard backs circled the ends with good interference and gained anywhere from twenty to fifty yards on almost every run. Although the large score was due partly to the weakness of the Bates ends, the Harvard interference was very creditable and was responsible for most of the gains. It formed quickly, got away firmly, and stuck together very well. This, however, was the only part of the work which showed any improvement. The line, although strong...
