Although neither eleven scored in the first half the 30 minutes of play was intensely interesting due to Carlisle's two attempts for goals from the field and to Mount Pleasant's punts, one of which went over Harvard's goal line for a touchback. Newhall caught Mount Pleasant's kick off on the 20-yard line and ran back 13 yards. Lockwood lost eight yards in the first rush, and Burr punted, the ball going out of bounds near the middle of the field. After two short rushes Mount Pleasant returned the punt to Starr, who was downed...
...practice of the University football squad yesterday, which was entirely secret, was unusually fast and snappy, due partly to the cold weather. In a 25-minute scrimmage the University team scored four touchdowns on the second eleven, being able to rush the ball practically at will. Although there was considerable fumbling, the men showed great improvement in their ability to follow the ball both on fumbles and on kicks...
...University football team will play Brown this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Stadium in what should be a moderately hard game. Last year Harvard defeated Brown by the score of 10 to 0, the low score being due to Brown's aggressivespirit and shifting formations. Of the four games played so far this fall Brown has won three, defeating Norwich University, 26 to 4; Wesleyan, 17 to 0; and New Hampshire State, 12 to 0. In the game two weeks ago, however, Pennsylvania defeated Brown 14 to 0, scoring two touchdowns and a goal from the field. Seven...
...forward passes or onside kicks. These plays were used to much greater advantage by the University eleven than by the second team, but it was impossible for either eleven to carry the ball any great distance by steady gains on account of the frequent fumbles and penalties, the first due to the slippery condition of the ball, the second to the insecure footing. Starr was tried at end, a position which he filled very satisfactorily. Foster, Newhall, Osborne, and Kennard, however, played the best game for the University team. Osborne ran the ball back 55 yards to the opponent...
Yesterday afternoon the University football team played two 20-minute halves against the second eleven, scoring four touchdowns to one made by the second team. The play was as good and as lively as any yet shown, this being in part due to the cool weather. In quickness in following the ball and in skill in the use of the forward pass and the onside kick the men on the first team showed a marked improvement. Lincoln and Wendell made very long gains on line plays, and Macdonald and Osborne recovered the ball for the first eleven several times...
